Does anyone have any insight into accounting roles at Amazon, particularly in the Arlington/DC area? An Amazon recruiter reached out about accounting roles, but the posts in this bowl are about Seattle. Trying to decide if the culture/wlb/pay is even worth looking into since it sounds like the interview process is intense. Base pay seemed pretty low in other posts, but they were a year old and for Seattle.

Some districts/unions build the after school meetings etc into the contract. Yet, the contract includes X number of days and hours per month/week. Teachers say the numbers do not add up, per site admin’s scheduled requests. Their total work hours continue to exceed.
An interesting amount. Each time I switched districts for better pay, my salary was $15,000 higher.
I make over $100k (on year 13) and teach 4 sections of the same class. I think I’m OVER paid
You make more than nurses who work 40 hours all weeks of the year working holidays and weekends too. That’s an amazing salary!
By 20k. We deserve it... ALL of us! Paras included!
If I have to purchase supplies, I say give me $50,000 more to cover how much I’m worth and how much I spend on my class.
At least 10k conservatively
I would say about $15,000 too. If I could be making 60k a year right now I’d be feeling really comfortable with all these crazy prices and maybe I could dream of owning a home some day 😂
$15k-ish.
I make $44k.
3 yrs ago, I made $10k less and would have been ecstatic with 44k. But now, with the increase of everything, it's not enough.
If I made $60k, I could have some left over at the end of the month.
I think admin should definitely make more— but that’s plain wrong giving admin a raise like that, and not to the other staff! Ooooh, I would be PISSED!!
In Michigan a State Rep staring salary is $71/year. They work less days then we do with just a bachelor’s. I would start there.
I am a PARA , I help supply necessary items for our class room and educational programs on the computer as well. I went into this job not thinking about how much I spend in our class room BUT what can I do to enhance their learning. I work for both Special Ed & Gen Ed, and I love both aspects of my job. So am I underpaid? When I add all the perks of my job, medical ,sick pay, health care, personal days, summers off, bereavement, AND the many WOW moments from my students, I feel like at times I AM NOT IN THIS JOB FOR THE INCOME...BUT THE OUT COME.... Money is fine but not the most important thing in my job. Our STUDENTS are......
You are fortunate in being able to apply yourself with monetary flexibility!
I’m adequately compensated, 6 figs -it took a minute to get to this point though!, but I do think everyone should be paid for after school meetings, PLCs, and PDs. Schools relay far too much on free labor and so many new teachers (and veterans) allow themselves to be manipulated into doing it “for the students.” Teachers should also be able to claim every cent they spend on their classrooms and their students.
I always said that since parents think we are just babysitters during the day, great pay me like a babysitter:
27 students (this is the max # that is supposed to be in each class per the state)
$3.00 per hour
6.75 hours per day
180 days
$98,415 per year (min since we never had only 27 students in each class!).
This means I was way underpaid - or I was since I had to retire due to medical issues.
By all means - pay me as a babysitter! And this $3.00 per hour is so low it is scary.
The average cost of a babysitter in Utah is $14.10 per hour. With the minimum wage in Utah being $7.25 per hour, you can expect to pay a hourly rate between $7.25 and $20.
So 27 x 7.25 x 6.75 x 180 = $237,836 per year at min wage!!!
$69,000., and Admin. make double that without having to actually teach. Admin. Got a 25,000.00 raise; teachers still don’t have a contract.
BH, how many hours do you think teachers work beyond “contract hours” for no pay? Speaking for myself, too much unpaid overtime for the amount of disrespect I receive from my superiors. The students keep me showing up each day. I’m on the front lines. How many middle managers do we need? 🤷🏽♂️
I'm at almost $100,000 and have a good budget for supplies so I wouldn't say I'm underpaid. However, first year teachers are underpaid paid by around $10,000. Making $30,000 a year equals about $15 and hour.
How many hours do you work per week? Are there any additional hours worked during breaks and summer that are unpaid, outside of contract time?
For a start, $17,000.
This completes the .76 cent per dollar deficit among comparable professions.
Next, specializations and high-demand position pay (skills).
Yet, teacher pay could be doubled!

… and we deliver much more than sitters! $3.00 per hour is a deal.
