Try doing it internally first, if not check other big 4s. If not then check boutique firms like CFGI or Connor Group (super easy to get into coming from big 4). They’re all looking for experience or ability on navigating ASC guidance and building complex excels or detailed memos pretty much.
My personal recommendation if you’re gonna do accounting advisory is do another year at senior in audit. We noticed that quite a few of our hires who went from associate to accounting advisory struggled significantly more than those who had a S1 year under their belt. It can be tough to catch up in accounting advisory because it’s typically less structured than audit.
If you’re trying to do it internally, make sure you know which group and why you want to make the move. Talk to the people in that group to understand what the day to day is like, what clients there are, do they have openings, etc. Then, talk to your mentor to make it happen. But make sure they know you’ve done your research. They don’t like it if you want to move just because you don’t like audit or you want to go to advisory, so be specific.
Coach
PwC is hiring if you want to chat or referral. I would try to get in while there is hiring demand if you want to go to a B4.
I may be interpreting this wrong so I'll ask, but what type of advisory work are you looking to get into? Deloitte is splitting advisory and putting it into audit and consulting. If you want something that was put into the audit business, it should be significantly easier to transfer too. If you want something in the consulting business it'll be a bit harder, but talking to your coach and getting in touch with people who have done that transition, and best practices would be the first step. Your team might be the biggest roadblock if you are really good at your job, but Deloitte is a very "drive your own career" company so as long as you are staying utilized they don't mind all that much if you shift.
