Computer science because it’s better in every way lol.
I agree with that! Even though there have been a lot of layoffs, the industry is still booming.
As someone who got their masters in accounting, get a masters in something else lol do an MBA with an emphasis in accounting or data analytics or computer science. You just need to 30 units and the accounting & business units. I took the MSA route cuz I had a completely different undergrad major and it’s just a prep class for the CPA but way more expensive. I figured out during the courses that I want to do data analytics not accounting accounting.
Go for something related to tech. I think you will have more options to get your visa sponsored. Worst case scenario, you have other countries that require tech people, and the pay will be decent.
I think you should totally go for your Masters! I've always thought it would be better to go for something related to your undergrad major but not exact, so I think getting something in Tech is a smart move. I don't believe you even need to major in accounting in your undergrad to take the CPA exam, so I vote for getting your Masters in whatever interests you second to accounting. Good luck!
“The educational requirements for California CPAs includes a minimum of 150 semester hours of undergraduate work that culminate in a bachelor's degree. As part of these 150 hours, you must have 24 hours of accounting subjects, 24 hours of business subjects, 20 hours of accounting study subjects, and 10 units of ethics.” As long as those units have been obtained or can be obtained, a master’s degree is not necessary. Once you complete a master’s of accounting you are automatically eligible to sit for the CPA, regardless of the breakdown of units allocated to accounting or business. I have had friends who have done their MBA, or just taken extra units after graduating with their undergraduate in accounting, and have been eligible to sit for the CPA. Ultimately it’s a personal choice. If you think you have a desire to learn something different than undergrad then now is the time to do so.
Don't many of those 150 hours have to be in advanced accounting and/or business related subjects? And so wouldn't that effectively require a masters in accounting?
