When I had to write curriculum maps for all classes that I teach, I wanted to increase academic rigor (this was an overarching goal for our school that year). So I used the state standards as a base and incorporated A.P. standards for that subject as well. Academic rigor was definitely increased and my students (I teach grades 10-12) have always come back after graduating to report how well prepared they felt for college because I added the tougher material.
I’ve written so many curriculums in my 13 years. But I’m a Literature teacher and the new Regents test are much different than the old ones. So it’s more writing something outside of my expertise. But because my curriculum for ELA increased our scores 200% I was selected. So here I am...
