I feel like classroom management is harder for me than for others. I'm starting to think that it's because I am a male teaching in an elementary.
Any suggestions on science or social studies curriculum to use in a self-contained (setting 4) EBD classroom?
How do you involve academics in your classroom? Does your school community realize there are integrated skills from their subjects in your class?

Just heard that my district will have classroom and live-recording learning. I’m thankful because I now can feed my family, my newborn and a recent-sponsored wife! I’m scared because I’m almost 50 and I’m afraid I might catch the virus and die leaving behind my 1 month baby and a wife who is not legal in the state yet! The USCIS or Trump’s dept. thinks she’s not good enough to be in the US!! We applied for green card and SS card since August 2019!
I am trying to build my quiet area in my classroom. I am having a hard time finding things that I feel are appropriate for this area during this pandemic. Does anyone have any suggestions? Please and thanks!!! :)
I am currently teaching while I also visit schools to help with classroom management. Here is some info about who sends me out to help schools just like yours. We are doing lots of online trainings to help getting back into the mind set of teaching in a classroom again. https://timetoteach.com/
Dropping this in a few bowls, sorry if you see it twice. I'm transitioning from teaching 8th grade mathematics at a public school to teaching a 7/8 self-contained classroom at a charter school. Any advice for teaching mixed grade levels or multi subject is appreciated: scheduling, classroom setup, subject order, behavior management, etc. I'm struggling to find my rhythm with only 6 weeks before kids return. Thanks to everyone for your commitment and time, enjoy your summer!
I am a special education aide in a structured self-contained classroom. Toileting and hygiene puts me at greater risk. I am symptomatic but have used up all my sick days. Is anyone’s admin showing grace in the number of paid sick days or are you docked when your sick days run out? This is why I am inclined to go to school regardless. We don’t have a union.
I can manage my classroom better if I don’t respond to emails outside of office hours. This gives my mind a break and by consequence refreshes me for the next day. It also sets a boundary.
Always a student. This helps me relate to my own. Mistakes. Confusion. Oopsies like giving the wrong answer when we KNOW it. Learning keeps me off any high horse because sure as the world I’d otherwise get knocked down. We are all students in our classrooms. An indirect bonus is that the connection we make by remembering what it’s like to be a student helps us manage the class better. We relate. We admit. We connect.
This school year has been very challenging to me. I’m a instructional aide,one-on-one, in a general education classroom. Teacher has never really made conversation with me, sometimes I force a ‘good morning ‘ from her. Her silence around me just makes me uncomfortable and not welcomed in her classroom. She has made comments towards my student, saying that he doesn’t need an aide, or that students don’t need ‘babysitter’s at school’. Has any aide experience this in classroom?
Does anyone have a good reading and reading response for an LLD classroom? I have a demo lesson and special education is new to me. Thanks!
I have been advised that our school social worker will be working with my entire classroom this year rather than pulling individually. I teach HS CI program. I would like social lesson ideas. Tx!
I bought two kindle fire tablets today. I want to use them in my classroom this year, specifically in my listening station (instead of the cassette+books) how do you use them in your classrooms?
Has anyone used a classroom economy in their resource room? In the past we’ve just done jobs as they are needed, but this year my kids really want specific jobs and I like the idea of an economy.

What is with NYC/EWR and Thursdays? Either the weather sucks or there's air traffic problems. Every freaking Thursday!
We're lucky to be in the top 1 and 2%... yes, we deal with high levels of stress and bullshit but there are many who would kill to be us, so remember that. Glass half full, people. #peptalkover 😎

About to get on my first traveling project (been local for 5 years). Will be traveling to Manhattan for the next year at least. Amex SPG the move?
