Comforting others:
When someone tells me bad news regarding their health, I say everything I am supposed to say (I’m sorry to hear that, I’m here for you, etc) EXCEPT “everything is going to be ok”. Because I can’t guarantee that and I really don’t know if everything is going to be ok. My sister and I have recently both come to the realization that our parents guilt us into spending time with them or visiting them and the guilt causes us both to shut down.
