Hi, I’m 17 and based in London. I’ve been trying to get my first job since I was 16. I have work experience from Year 10 arranged by my school, but I’m struggling to stand out. My CV is quite general and aimed at entry-level roles. Does anyone have tips on improving my chances? Thanks!

I would suggest walking into places and asking if they are hiring. Sometimes that can be a way to land an interview on the spot. Best of luck to you.

Good suggestion. Instead of letting your resume be the only thing they have to judge you on, you can show your dedication and personality in person

I am based in the US, but I personally think the same applies everywhere. My son, who is now 19, got his first job at 15 then his second at 16. By walking in and asking to speak with the manager. In this digital age, a lot of managers appreciate the effort applicants put in when they do more than fill out an application online.

No child has work experience until they are older of legal age so this isn’t really relevant

At 17, a lot of it is just showing that you’re reliable, available, and worth taking a chance on. I’d make the CV less general by adding anything that shows responsibility, even school activities, volunteering, punctuality, teamwork, or helping customers during work experience. For first jobs, attitude and presentation often matter as much as experience.

Hi everyone!
I wanted to add a custom font to my CV, but I find out that google docs don’t allow that.
Can someone share your advice which program I could use to build a CV with custom font?

Wondering what people think about my situation. I’ve been offered a role with a company. The job description didn’t mention college degree as a requirement. On my CV I have a section listed as “Education” and under it I have “Business Studies” with the university name and the 3 years that I attended the course (2.5 to be exact). It’s a 4 year degree and under this I have my High School equivalent with the years I attended there. The education wasn’t mentioned in the interviews. Continued below.

Hello,
Any advice for someone who wants to break into product management?
Context, i have 10+ years in advertising experience, and founded a startup in 2020 (with a Sr Developer as cofounder) but had to drop the startup for personal reasons (moving to another country) and i really liked building a product and getting technical.
So any advice would help.

So I’ve been with a court for a while and honestly the pay sucks compared to what paralegals should be making… the benefits are great though and they match my retirement 100% now that I’m vested at 3 years.I have 4 kids and 1 is getting ready for college. I feel like the benefits are great but I’d rather make more now. I am a previous LEO for 4 years who switched to paralegal so I have my leo retirement. Paralegals here make $28 with no benefits what is a good compromise
