Hi - looking for direction: I’m about to file my citizenship application without a lawyer (after 5yrs of permanent residency). I filled out the N-400 form myself. At the end of the form it’s asking to upload any documents/evidence. How important is it uploading documents and what exactly is preferable to upload? (ex: foreign passport pgs, univ degree, employment verification?). It didn’t specifically require to upload copies. Would my case be denied if I don’t upload anything? Thx in advance

The USCIS has detailed instructions that are downloadable from their website that provides a checklist of what you need to provide, as what is needed is case specific. I find the online application is not clear on what additional documents you need, so go by the N-400 instructions that you can download from USCIS website. Even if you miss something that is needed, you can still usually submit it at the interview or they will issue a Request for Evidence for the specific items, however this can delay processing of your case so best to attempt to submit everything upfront. Good luck! :)

At a minimum, your green card and if you’re married, the marriage certificate. If divorced, a copy of the final divorce. You can also upload passport biopage, but not all pages are necessary.

Questions for my fellow EAs out there:
1. How many of you travel for your job? If so, are there stipulations?
2. My team is having an 2-day offsite meeting in another city and many folks outside of our team are all traveling in for it. Some are only attending for an hour. My exec told me yesterday I couldn’t attend (after weeks of asking him), citing that we couldn’t have excessive hours of OT (maybe 4 hrs). I do not feel valued as a team member.
Should I bring it up or let it go?

Who’s working this Sunday?

I cheated... we aren’t supposed to do real art in the morning. We watch an art video and discuss in the morning, then in the afternoon we post an instructional video and the kids do a small project at home... I cheated yesterday. I handed out air dry clay and went to town with my 3rd grades.... the kids said it was the most fun art class ever. I will get in trouble for passing stuff out, but I needed it. So did the kids. Best art day all year!

Where do ya'll find paralegals in NY? Looking for someone who is fluent in Urdu or Punjabi. Figured I'd reach out to see what works for people?

Anyone know how much Fragomen pays U.S. attorney’s working out of London, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam?

So I just had a client tell me their asylum case is fabricated, and can't I help prepare the person for court. My initial reaction, fire the client. I'm not that kind of atty. But I hear so many talk about finding a balance and not turning ppl away bc ultimately they need a defense and who knows what will come up along the way. How would you handle? How do you find the balance btwn not turning clients away but not being unethical?

Just venting here… At WAS for an adjustment interview based on an affirmative asylum and the officer said he’s never done and affirmative adjustment before… and questioned my client when he said that he has never been in proceedings. Officer said “I don’t agree with that, I think you *have* been in proceedings” when we submitted the affirmative asylum approval and I had to show that to him smh. Why aren’t they training these officers 😭

Urgent question, if anyone knows the answer. I found out a petition I filed is being rejected due to incorrect filing fee, but I haven’t received the rejection package yet. Do I need to wait to receive the rejection notice to send everything back with it, or can I just refile a new petition asap? Really praying I can do the latter…

Anyone have insight on salary for Fragoman/BAL in SF for a 6th year?

Any current BAL attorneys that can share their experience working for the firm? I have a second interview coming up. After the first interview I’m pretty excited about the opportunity and would like to hear from any current employees on their experience with the firm!

BAL and Fragomen associates, has their been any effort to push associate salaries up? If not, what is their excuse?

It seem like the two biggest immigration firms are severely lagging behind in compensation while other larger firms with immigration practices are pushing up comp.

Fragomen and BAL updated their NY job posting to be in compliance with NY’s salary law. Is anyone else immensely frustrated by the low salaries in immigration? I like the work, but the comp can suck

Hi there! Hoping to go to law school for immigration law next Fall. I’m interested in business immigration (really to pay off debt and get stable financially) but eventually want to help refugees and asylum seekers in some capacity years later. Is switching areas of focus like that easy to do? Has anyone ever experienced something like this?

What is average number of clients to have per attorney? I know it always depends on practice and firm, but I'm wondering if there's a general amount?

Best and worst thing about working in immigration?

I have a client (employer) that wishes to hire a worker that is currently in an H2B visa. Two questions: 1. Do I use the same 9142B to apply for the change of employer, and 2) because it is a change and extension (he is on year 2) it won’t count against the quota?

Current salary range for business immigration attorneys in NYC?
(One year of immigration experience. Two years of business immigration experience.)

Once I get my H1B issued, how soon can I apply for a greencard and how long does the process take from application to receipt of the greencard? For reference, I’m born Canadian (I think birth country plays a factor in this?) and is it better to apply through my employer or apply on my own?

Hi - I'm looking for a referral for a family member in the LA/Orange County. Relative is a permanent resident (has been for 10+ years) and looking to apply for citizenship. Relative had a juvenile record which was expunged ( I think it matters for citizenship). They had this record before they applied for their permanent residency. Now looking to an attorney with immigration & crim experience. Thank you!

Hi all, I really really want to move to an in house role. Just over the firm life completely. I’ve been at one or another of the big 4 l&e shops since 2018. Just wondering if anyone has any pointers or even if it’s possible at my current level? Thank you!

What are the advantages and disadvantages of working as an immigration attorney for a nonprofit?

Recently started my own firm and interested in others thoughts. Are there resources out there for practical advice or is it only something that comes with experience? For example, I can take let's say a 601A client and use the resources available to me to learn how to do it. But if a client asks me is it better to marry my fiance in her home country, bring her here on a K-1 or have her visit on a B-2, that's not learned from a book or webinar. How does one learn how to evaluate new cases?
