Hi! My contract was supposed to end next year, however my company ended it this month. They announced they were hiring someone new on my team the same day they told me my contract ends. The reason given was “because of business needs”, for months there weren’t complaints about my work or performance. I was a lead on a project as well as taking on/helping with more work. I asked for a referral and my manager said they don’t feel right at the time. What do I make of this?

I manage 2 physician practices and one is extremely toxic. To the point the dr sides with staff even when I am trying to make corrective actions when patient care is in jeopardy. My leadership is aware and knows I am keeping my distance from them. Just doing the necessary work to keep them producing. How do you handle this? Bc of personal career considerations and desire to explore other skills/avenues, I want to move to part time at my current job.
