I will pick a Honda over Kia any day. I currently use a 2017 pilot so I may be biased.
It really depends if you plan on leasing or purchasing (cash or finance). Although the KIA may offer more features and what not, the residual value is horrible. On a lease this isn't something you need to worry about as the residual value is guaranteed for the length of the lease. However, if you're straight up purchasing it or financing it then the KIA won't hold up well at all. The Pilot has great resale value even after 6, 7, or even 8 yrs of age. The Honda is also much more reliable.
Most importantly, drive both and see which one you prefer and which one better suits your lifestyle.
Goodluck
Kia has more cargo room, more second row legroom, more standard equipment, better price, better warranty, and better interior materials. I’d drive both - but I think the consensus is that the Kia is a better buy. I also think it looks better than the new pilot.
I do not dispute that it looks better but if you add other data points like resale value and durability.. Honda wins I believe.
Yup. This
Re resale you have a point - but that only really matters if OP is planning on selling within a few years - beyond that and I doubt it’ll be a meaningful difference. These don’t have *that* far to fall in price. Kia and Hyundai make pretty good cars these days - combined with the substantially better warranty you get, I’d probably choose the Kia over the Pilot just for the price, interior quality, and tech features.
They’re family sized crossovers, not enthusiast cars. Practicality, value, quality, features, and comfort are the differentiating factors here. I think the Telluride beats the Pilot in any of those categories.
I don’t own either of these cars so this is pretty unbiased - just coming from someone who follows the car industry.
Kia gets more bang for value. Honda has its brand and reputation.
Telluride looks really good to me, and the tech that Kia puts in is really solid
OP, I have a FWD 2019 Honda Pilot that I may have to sell soon for an AWD. I am also considering Telluride however, have liked Pilot since I bought it. Kia does look great and might be a better car overall except maybe resale.
Consider winter tires instead of taking a depreciation hit selling a one year old car.
I'm hard pressed to believe the Telluride is going to depreciate more than other cars. KIA is making good cars now. I'd have a hard time paying the prices I've seen for used Honda SUVs, I think the brand is riding in3 their reputation. Im not sure it's as justified as it used to be.
