Hot take: Working from home hasn't killed mentoring. It DID expose that most senior engineers don't actually know how to teach. It’s easy to mentor someone when they can just look over your shoulder at a desk, but doing it remotely requires intentionality, documentation, and actual communication skills. A lot of seniors are complaining about junior velocity right now because they can no longer rely on proximity to hide their lack of structured guidance. Am I being unfair?

Questions about job hopping-
My average tenure at a company is ~1.5 years (with ~11 YOE), but each jump I've made has yielded progressive/tangible career growth.

I'm concerned after my most recent jump (went from a product director to a head of product position at a different, smaller company after only a year) that I've kind of poisoned future career prospects at larger companies.

Any insights on whether this type of job hopping is a complete deal breaker for potential HMs?
