Litigation in Big Law in Dallas has been slow in 2023. About 100 less hires in 2023 compared to Houston same time period. We don’t know why. I did just get 2 decent jobs last week but up until then it’s been hard.

Insurance defense jobs have been busy.

Nope. I’ve talked to Dallas multiple firms in last 12 weeks plus spoke at a recruiting function in November in Dallas so I’m very aware of who is hiring. Message me if you want to schedule a call.

How about ID to another practice?

In Houston

Always hard to move ID to Big Law. Better to take an intermediate step. Move to smaller firm with more sophisticated work first.

Thank you. Any insight on whether fraud cases for insurance looks any better than general ID? Seems to be a good transition into white collar lit. And it’s more complex so maybe it would open doors for general lit?

my firm is hiring for lit, I’d have to check on specific groups (I don’t work in lit). I’m pretty sure clerkship is a pre req though, fwiw

I know we cannot expense phone/internet/ commuter benefit as I am not actively doing work.

However, for other items that fall under wage works reimbursement, I couldn’t find anything in writing yet.

So the question has been asked a few times in the main Big Law bowl but keeps getting derailed into a political issue. As someone with a more conservative disposition anyway I'm interested in the day to day of life and work in Texas as opposed to NYC (or similar).

I’m a non-TX immigration attorney mentoring a UT student who went to my undergrad. He’s done incredibly well in OCI and pre-OCI. Thus far, he’s landed interviews with (all in Houston): Baker Botts, Sidley Austin, Kirkland, Winston Strawn, Reed Smith, Norton Rose, and Locke Lord. Also Perkins Coie in Dallas. He’s leaning transactional, but also open to litigation. Any insights/advice on these firms in the TX market? Any to avoid?

I figured this bowl being specific to Texas would understand importance of oil and gas industry.
