How can I tactfully answer when someone asks me how much I earn? I hate disclosing my income, but for some reason, people always want to know "what kind of money I make" when they learn what I do. I don't know why people care so much about other's salaries to begin with.

Which people lol? A simple “I’m not sure cuz it depends on many factors” would suffice. Or they can just Google

like

Agreed. They are too lazy to google it because as a random drone in a company comparing pay is like grade schoolers competing on who is the oldest and by how many months.

Enough to be content

I don't know if this is the imposter syndrome talking, but as in house, I feel like I rarely *do* anything. I answer questions as they come up, review maybe 1-2 contracts a day, and manage a few litigation cases (primarily handled by outside counsel). Compared to my 300+ emails from clients a day that I would receive from my large firm job, I feel like I'm missing something? I'm the only attorney at my small company. I don't know if the workload at my previous firm skewed my perception.

Thinking of switching employers. Do you think bigger retail stores (the ones that have several locations) are easier or harder to work at than little hole-in-the-wall grocery stores (which is all I've ever done)? It seems like the larger chain stores would have more downtime, but I'm wondering if anyone could give some input.

Additional Posts in Compensation in Consulting

“Experienced Hire” with 7 years of advisory technology consulting. Possibly looking to switch firms. Have no idea if I’m in the range, over or under market level on comp.
