How common is it to be able to practice in another jurisdiction while under supervision of another attorney at a law firm? For context I’m barred in DC but am looking at firms in New York. I’m not able to transfer my bar scores anymore since it’s been more than 3 years but less than 5 to waive in.

Law firms hire lawyers from other states all the time— with the expectation of them going through the state bar process. The firm will tell you what they expect regarding bar registration (whether through reciprocity, waiver, or examination). Until you are barred in the state, the firm will add notations on the website and in any stationery (assuming your names is added to an stationery, which is not likely anyway) that you can only practice in DC. In the meantime, the firm manages your practice through supervision. Given that you are only second year, you are not likely to sign any legal document anytime soon anyway. Bar is not a hindrance for a second year associate.

I thought this was very common. What do you mean by supervision? For bar requirements or just as a common practice i.e. a senior attorney supervising a junior. If the latter, this happens all the time. Firms don’t really care where junior people are based I feel like.

Hi
Applied for a position in Johnson and Johnson Canada. Reached the final round 3 weeks back. After not getting any updates I emailed the HR a couple of weeks back. They responded back telling me that they’ll have an update for me the next week. Again I emailed them on Thursday asking if they have anything for me before the long weekend ( Good Friday & Easter). No response whatsoever. Will emailing them again be inappropriate? I desperately need this job

Case 1: complaining about a date insisting on picking up the check as it makes them feel less independent.
Case 2: agreeing on 50/50, then being upset about why the date never picks up the check or treats them after 3 months of dating

In both cases, posted 5 days apart, they were advised to find someone else as it seems their date doesn’t respect their values (case 1) or value them enough to spend money on them (case 2).

Well, just 🤯

Next week I’m having my first lateral interview as a junior associate.
