It's not typically a "fresh out of college" position to have. To consult you should typically have a wealth of experience and knowledge in your industry. It takes years development the knowledge and skills to be valuable to your client. One exception, though, could be technical consulting if you have come out of school with fresh knowledge and expertise of new and better work flow technologies...
I joined right out of college. But I also interned and that position is arguably harder to get than a full time staff role. That said we also do yearly recruiting for college grads so I'm not sure why Nina is saying you can't join the industry after graduation.
