Im a 40yr old exec coach. In my experience, this is a relationship/referral based business. I work for a firm and thats how it all comes in.
The people i know who are solo coaches leveraged off their relationships at a firm, then all got clients from webinars, email/social lists with regular posting. Thats years of development though. After that its all doing a great job and patience.
Most started on the side or after a large severance layoff.
Stick with it, be persistent in whatever you decide to do.
Thank you so much! Trying to get started and it’s taking a while! Will persist! ☺️
Hey! I am a business coach/consultant and i help people just like you. Id say the best way to get started is to reach out directly to people who look like your ideal client from your existing network, even if your network consists of 100 people. Creating relationships in this profession is your starting point! Good luck!
Im just starting to see some traction after starting almost 3 years ago (I am a career transitions coach for midcareers. I second CCC. Relationships are the key to the business because coaching is about intimacy, referrals are the way. It can be other coaches who are not in your field who refer you, for instance. Also there are platforms like Noomii that can help you get started. Best of luck!!!
PM1– this is a longer conversation. I don’t know if I do networking per se but rather to befriend people in my ICF cohort and see who I genuinely want to develop relationships with. I also invest a lot of time and effort cultivating my relationship to existing clients
What kind of response did you get in the other bowl that wasn’t pretty?
Also, seconding that referrals are the best way to get new business. There are just so many coaches out there, and potential clients seem to use referrals as the quickest way to wade through their options.
