I just wait for someone to call if it is important

Very poorly for the most part. Some people are good at flagging emails for follow up later, but if this is a John question about cold emails, then I'd assume it was ignored or lost after 48 hours without a response.
Also FYI I have had partners reply to my cold emails a week later so 48 hours may be too short...
Ask the partner how they want to be reminded—sometimes, it’s Teams, text, setting up a meeting to review. A few partners ghost to see how you’ll respond. Flag emails to respond and set tasks.

I maintain a “follow up” folder for stuff I send out and then check it daily to see what I need to follow up on

I immediately sort all “handled” items out of the inbox so that my inbox is my to do list
Folders per matter and I try to keep my inbox below 40 emails (with varying success throughout a given week) - these emails are the ones I haven’t gotten to yet, and I flag the ones that I have to actually take action on. But I don’t think this is typical. Most lawyers have thousands of emails in their inbox.
For outlook — filters, folders, and flags.
