Maybe they are just smart enough to know that the grass is not always greener, despite of the view from the other side.
Well also companies used to want to employ you for life than to juice quarterly figures. That two way street closed in 90s and since then, well, it's been a fight
I’ve been at EY for 21 years. I’ve stayed because every time I have been bored or needed a change, I had the support to do so. I’ve changed jobs probably every three to five years.
It's easy to get complacent. But there's also life outside of work. Maybe they have accomplished much more outside of work, and treated the job as a job.
I think pensions and the extra effort required to research/find a job, prepare for an interview, go to the interview, etc in person without any (or at least very fast or functional) internet made the process and effort much more burdensome.
I couldn’t imagine it either but I think that also just reflects our generational differences of how we think about work and life too
