I always thought skin produced more oil when it was deprived of oil. I use an oil cleanser which makes my face very clean and removes all my makeup without stripping natural oils. Also, make sure to moisturize!
Definitely may be over exfoliating
I wash my face with a salicylic acid face wash and then use Cetaphil gentle clear salicylic acid face lotion and put a sunscreen on during the day. At night I use retinol, and use the salicylic acid lotion again. I do use oil blotting paper sometimes. I exfoliate using a glycolic acid toner a few times a week
The liners in the bathroom work as great blotting papers, also blotting papers
You might be using drying cleansers which is causing the oily skin
Despite the oiliness, your skin needs moisture. I recently discovered Kiehl’s calendula water-base cream. It’s light and I love the scent.
If you’re not using a primer, I would suggest looking at Smashbox primers. I use two: one to mattify my T-zone and another for redness (rosacea).
I use a primer currently mostly to hide my pores and uneven skin, but I'll keep an eye out for those brands the next time I'm at the shops :)
Paula’s BHA exfoliant has helped me I think. Tretinoin dries my skin out too but nothing is any match for my oily oily forehead. I feel u.
If you have an oily skin, you have to buy a cleanser which will control oil. For example Paula’s Choise normal to oily skin is my favorite. Clean face twice with cleanser in the morning and twice at the evening. Exfoliate skin only two times per week. Also don’t forget to use toner with ph 5.5, our skin likes acidity, not alkaline. After toner, apply hyaluronic acid and good moisturizer to keep the moisture of the skin. Good luck!
