You could just try not going. I love going to mine and am sad when I can’t attend one. But by no means do I attend all of them.
You will feel trapped into going if you continue to make yourself go and never talk to your work about it. Just speak up or just try not going. It’ll probably not turn out as bad as you think.
I love office parties where I can drink for free. I honestly don’t care as long as I’m not getting black out drunk or doing anything crazy. Last office party I had 8 drinks and purposely didn’t drive because I knew I was going to abuse the free drinks that nobody else wanted lol. The team was literally giving me free drink tickets. I’m also the youngest on my team.
I get paid for all of my OT. They also gave out a free bonus for people who made under 75k this year of 1000 dollars. Paternity leave is also approved for everyone first day 16 weeks now. They might be making some steps in the right direction.
I like them! I work with cool people so hanging with them outside an office setting is fun imo
Can’t stand them. It would be one thing if they were on a Friday, but it’s always on a work night so it cuts into time for the gym/errands/family time and then I still have to get up early the next morning.
Yes I hate that they do those on Thursdays and not Fridays
Worked in an office once that had Guinness kegs on tap in the break room and a good variety of craft bottles. They had thirsty Thursdays where we had a meeting at 4pm, had a drink, celebrated wins, chilled, etc, and then people still left between 5-6. That seemed ideal to me. Anything else I generally pass on.
Agree with you here. I have only been to one and don't like the pressure associated with these events.
I absolutely hate them. People over drinking and getting sloppy drunk isn’t a good look for anyone and you just need to grin and bear it as your boss is making a fool of themselves.
I do not like 90 percent of the people I work with and when I leave this place I will stay in contact with 5 percent of them probably .
I love it ! great opportunity to socialize with colleagues and get to know them better. I don’t know why you don’t like it unless you are not in a fun group
Lmao
I hate forced socialization. It’s exhausting and most of the interactions are fake and superficial. I haven’t attended that last few holiday events and I haven’t missed out on anything. More time with my family!
I don’t mind if they are during office hours. I prefer my personal time when I am off the clock.
Whether it’s virtual or in person, I don’t like them. But the people who do attend seem to be favored by upper management.
I don’t mind them so long as the company culture isn’t stale and phony. But not going usually has a negative effect on how you’re regarded. It’s definitely part of the networking expectations in corporate America so do it or DON’T reap the rewards
I like them more where I’m at currently. Previously it felt all forced and more like an overtime situation.
Rising Star
Too bad we can't go back to the 80s 90s when office parties were lavish boondoggle where anything goes and people just have fun. Everything has been ruined by a few bad actors and today's social environment
I personally don't attend any of them. I am also the older worker. When I was younger I would occasionally attend a holiday event but definitely not all of the company events. It should never be a requirement and many of us have other obligations to family members that take precedence over socializing.
