Sometimes you just have to start out lower and work your way up. A Jr. Dev role is better than no role at all. At least you'll still be in the sector you want to focus on.
Thanks for the advice, yea its a little disheartening because I'm competing with students who don't have work experience but just a cs degree.
Yes I have a few years of mechanical eng experience and a CS industry internship this past summer but most of my classmates have secured internships at prestigious companies or have secured rules simply based on their undergrad CS degree and some projects. Im not trying to sound like "these international students are taking my job" although its competitive right now.
I know it's discouraging, but I think working your way up from a lower role will be more beneficial in the end too. You'll get more rounded experience and have qualifications that make you stand out even more against people who are going for the same roles as you.
I don't think it hurts to take a lesser role. I had to do that many times as I was climbing my way up the ladder. Better to get your foot in the door somewhere is what I have found.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I am going to focus on applying for the jr dev roles. Those new grad roles are hard to break into because of the total applications.
I think that's a wise decision. A lot of times, just having a professional experience on your resume can make all the difference!
