Rising Star
Is it that hard?

Atty 1 you’re being really smug
No advice but I can relate to this. My sister was visiting recently and said “you couldn’t pay me to do that” when I answered a Friday night email from my phone. Like cool? They can and do pay me to do that. It is what it is I guess.
My sister says snarky shit like this too. I roll my eyes but ultimately just let it go. It’s annoying but there’s nothing that I can say or do that will change her opinion or get her to stop making those kinds of remarks 🤷🏻♀️ you couldn’t pay me to do her job so guess the feeling is mutual lol
It’s not that hard, just say you can’t but eventually you’ll lose/get distant from all friends and family. It’s sad.
I’m so sorry you’ve experienced that ☹️
I can arguably take all the PTO I want - but there’s no one else to do the work for me. That’s the part they don’t understand. The deadlines and hearings don’t stop just because I go on vacation, there’s a lot of preparation that goes into being gone!
You sound like you’ve made your priorities (even if temporary) and communicated it to them. I find that some family members will never understand no matter what or how you try to put it in perspective, they’re just focused on the here and now that you can’t do XYZ whenever they plan it. And that’s not something you can change unfortunately.
If it’s only a couple more years, do what you can and then once you’re done, try to reconnect with whoever you care to and re-build the relationship. I moved away (countries), so I can only visit my family twice a year max. Some of them know months in advance when I’ll be there and still can’t get off work, but I don’t take it personally. I have other family members that get VERY mad when I don’t schedule my trip to whenever is convenient for them, and for those, I just ignore them.
You have to be ok with your own choices and their consequences, but also you don’t have to put up with rude and inconsiderate people if they’re saying anything about that besides “oh we’ll miss you and look forward to spending more time with you when it’s feasible”
