How do you deal with the stress and anxiety from unnecessarily rude and aggressive judges? There is one in the northern district who has a hair trigger temper and will find any reason to lash out if he doesn’t like the party in front of him. I have a small issue in front of him this week and have had anxiety about it all day.

One of the most important skills to develop as a litigator is to have thick skin and not allow those situations to affect you outside of the moment. I don't know if you're female like me, but the best way to handle it is to just stand there and take it, nod, and stay calm. It takes time, but you'll eventually be able to let it all go in one ear and out the other. Also, for females, some male attorneys will be outright belligerent and will yell & scream & say all sorts of (bs) cruel things to try to get under your skin, but it's best to just not react and actually let it motivate you to want to kick their @ss even more. Good luck to you :)

I bet I know which ND IL judge you are referring to and dismissed my case and refiled in state court. So not worth it to be before that type of judge.

It’s hard to trust the partners/leadership when they want us to return to office as being better when we increase offshoring? Also, the pressure on billable hours when all that really matters is how much our fixed labor costs vs. how much we can bill (which is usually fixed fee or at least a range) and the fixed labor costs of offshoring is significantly cheaper so the hours don’t matter. Am I mistaken by this viewpoint?

Advice pls - was confirmed that Deloitte would be moving to offer approx 3 weeks ago. Offered lower than expected salary, asked for an increase and haven’t received any confirmation on the original or revised offer. Chased recruiter a few times only to receive a reply that its pending partner approval. Passed up a better offer in favour of getting into consulting and have another offer which I cannot afford to lose. Passed up offer 85k FNZ SC, current offer £80K Barclays VP, Deloitte -70k+6.7.

Hi, what kind of salary should I expect from London consultancies with 1 year experience as an Analyst at Accenture?

I’m working in analytics with some currently in Python and R, and some AWS exposure with the cloud fundamentals cert (which doesn’t mean much I know 😂) and would be looking for a similar data-focussed role.

If anyone knows of any open roles and would be happy to do a referral etc then please also let me know.

Thanks 😊

Additional Posts in Chicago Lawyers

I own a small growing real estate/corporate law firm in Chicago and looking for another associate. Tough sledding. Looking for someone 2-5 years out with commercial real estate experience. Maybe a big or medium firm associate looking for some work life balance and a different approach. Anyone know anyone?

Any word on how the increasing positivity rates are going to affect the court openings and trials in Cook County? I know that some civil trials were being conducted and there was talk about opening more courtrooms. But that was before the sudden spike in positive tests.

What is the benefit of working at the Cook County State's Attorneys Office other than the rapid trial experience one gains? I was a non traditional student - I do have a job lined up in private practice. Im not particularly fond of the practice area but its decent paying for entry level. I attended a networking event and met so many State's attorneys who seemed to enjoy the work bc of the experience they were gaining.

Sort of feel its a job more geared to folks who never worked in law before.

I thought I would ask this here too because some of you may spend a lot of time at the Daley center and I’m dying to know the answer to this pressing concern.

The tree at the NW corner of Dearborn and Washington at Daley Center. WHY is it always covered with thousands of birds. I could walk across the loop and not see a single bird but when I get to DCP, every day, rain or shine or heat or cold, thousands of birds. What is up with this tree? Why is it special?

I’m a business/commercial lawyer with 8 years experience looking to relocate to Chicago from NYC area, while also trying to make the jump to in-house after only ever working at a boutique firm. It’s been 5 months and I haven’t had any luck applying to job postings on the usual sites (no calls, no interviews, nothing). I can’t tell if this is due to covid, the market, the fact that I don’t have any in-house experience, the fact that I live out of state, or something else entirely. Any insights??
