How do you explain your value when you work in an enabling function and don’t directly impact company profits? I’ve tried to take on cost-savings projects, but so far nothing had had substantial financial impact. I’m constantly receiving praises from co-workers, and I’m ready to ask for a raise but I’m struggling to put some objective data behind my request.

Put it in terms of what your work allows the profit drivers to do. How much time are you saving them? How much more efficient do you make them? All that sort of thing. If you disappeared, there would be lost productivity/profitability. Whatever that amounts to is the value you're providing, even if it's indirect.

I would try to frame impact in terms of the things that you have enabled - e.g. in my work with this function, they were able to launch X in record time or something like that

OP that’s definitely an example that you can use! You were asked to do the program and they wanted it done by end of year and you were able to successfully launch the program by end of year.

You likely drive projects to contribute to specific company objectives. And I’m sure there’s lots of soft skills in your work too. These are all valuable

I'm early in my career, managed to save $30K to invest, and want to get my hands dirty with a rental property without too much risk (e.g. no HML/flipping). It sounds like that's a tall order in the NY/CT area given the prices, not to mention whether I'd be able to get a mortgage on anything below $100K, but I figure I'll give it a shot anyway. Any advice on what you might do in my position? Am I being crazy with this idea?

I’ve been approached my by company that one of our large clients (who im currently project managing for) is looking for a consultant of sorts, and if they hire us, I’d be the first person asked to take on this consultant role. This isn’t something my company typically offers and would greatly change the scope of my role. Has anyone ever taken on a role like this? If so, were you able to negotiate a percentage of the consulting fee? Or was it a bump in salary during the project?

Do you still have opportunity to negotiate salary when you’re going thru a recruiter and they tell you the range upfront?

Im currently going through industry change.
Im a pastry cook with 4yrs experience and the average salary start for this position is now at $22/hr here in vegas, especially in the strip. But cooking/baking is not my passion. So im changing into veterinary medicine and im seeing that the starting rate for a vet tech is around $16-18. Why is that?? Why are people in the vet med industry being paid so low?? Something needs to change. Labor of love aint enough for the people in this job.

What's the best form of compensation to ask for and why?

My employers' CEO just announced that they just received $7 million from investors. He wants to use that money to offer incentives to employees that hussle and drive more revenue for the company. We're not sure what those incentives look like yet, but here are some post-announcement rumors from my co-workers:

Cash bonuses, raises, profit-sharing, company equity, 401k match, etc.

Should I accept the offer from company A, continue interview process with company B and then rescind my offer with company A if company B offers me a job? Will I be burning bridges?

My husband just received a job offer on an opportunity he is really excited about. It would be great for his career and they are giving the 15% jump in base he asked for, however they won’t share what the target bonus amount would be. It’s an executive director position, so I would assume it’s a decent target bonus, but without that in writing it could honestly be a gift basket at the end of the year. Is it a red flag for them to not share this? His total comp could be less at this new job…
