They're family. If my dogs are sick, I'm taking time off work to get them checked out and feeling better. It's a non-negotiable for me.

Use your time off as needed. Planned or unplanned days, whatever works. Pets are family and if they’re sick or injured, of course that’s more important than work.

I don’t think it should be connected at all. That goes for any reason you need off from work. Whether it’s a sick pet, kid, whatever, you need a day off for. No need to justify it, you do what you need to do.

I’m with you on this. If your pet is unwell, they come first, no question. Work can wait, but you can’t get that time back with them. I think most reasonable workplaces should understand that.
