Kickboxing or MMA classes after my shift, throwing some punches, I'm happy.
Hitting the gym! Two hours at least, that's for sure.
I go to a boxing class. I work out my temper & frustrations there. I also talk to a non-union therapist. Some cases are harder to let go of than others.
I know it's kinda tabu in Law Enforcement, but I go to therapy at least once a week, it has helped me deal with a lot of bad stuff.
Talking about it with a shrink, got depression after a horrible case and it has been very helpful.
Leaving that stuff at work and not bringing it home. My house is my happy place and where I seek comfort from my family.
Talking to a therapist and exercising!
Not thinking about work at home AT ALL.
Seeing my wife and kids and enjoying my time out of the jail made me forget it. I think it depends on how physical it gets for you. I had a few uses of force, but no one ever assaulted me , if you’re fighting every day, maybe harder to forget.
Remind yourself that they are all part of the job. You need to adjust.
Talking to a friend. Or a therapist if you want a professional one. Exercising helps a lot too!
