It's honestly just a matter of bad timing, this is not a great job market for people starting out. There have been lots of layoffs, and you have a situation with fairly experienced people looking for work. So it's doubly hard for recent grads to make any headway. All you can do is keep trying and stay persistent. Let's hope things pick up heading into the end of the year.
One advantage you have is being a recent graduate. Have you tried to leverage that to land internships or shadowing opportunities? Might be a good way to just get your foot in the door somewhere.

It is so rough right now at least in my personal experience. You just have to keep chugging along and try different things hoping something can stick. Rather than letting ambitions drive you, I've found that working at a job that I don't like and the prospect of leaving has driven me more
Are you networking?
Handing someone a resume and asking for a job is one thing, connecting with other designers is another. Maybe start reaching out not to the hiring folks at design firms, but more junior/senior level people at the places you’re looking at and try setting up informal design chats.
Ask about things like process, tools, team structure, and just be interested in hearing what people are doing. If you get to the 1:1 stage, try not asking them to refer you immediately, and just thank them for their time. I guarantee you people will respond better and keep you in mind with an approach like this, versus something that feels more transactional.
(I’ve done this a few times myself and it’s been huge for when opportunities at their companies do pop up)
