When the environment is chaotic and unorganized, that is a bad environment. I have been in some really bad work environments so I can always tell right away if it is normal stress or the work environment. If you start feeling burned out or the environment starts to affect your mental health, then it is time to start looking for something else.
Absolutely
Supportive team vs unsupportive team is a make or break I’ve realized. A supportive team can help make bad days good or okay and an unsupportive team can make even good days stressful.
Are there times the stress gets better? Like were you’re not so busy so you’re not so miserable? If not, that is a toxic work environment. If you’re always miserable, there’s a reason.
of course,i am a homebody and do not leave jobs i usually stay and most of the time things get better on their own.If it is so toxic it is affecting your health and the supervisors or hire ups are not willing to help and you see no way to make things better on your own. There are alot of other jobs that will be a better fit for you.
I loved my team and had a hard time leaving, but finally did move to another hospital due to constant patient and family violence. I am still glad that I made the change, but I will keep looking for a better fit. Prior management assured me that all patient populations were the same, so leaving would not help, but it actually did.
I do wonder regularly what I want to end up doing, though... I delayed leaving due to the same question you had. Decide what you are looking for and what you will sacrifice to get it, because the situation is unlikely to be a total win. I lost a team I loved that was supportive.
I got a better patient population and friendlier providers, but took a hit on salary, reputation, benefits, and staffing. I also work per diem now to have better control over my schedule. Figure out what you need to make a change worth it for you.
Move on there is no company loyalty. You need to have one coworker you can talk to at the job. A buddy. If everyone is always stabbing you in the back it’s time to leave. You need to have a job where you are respected.
