How does everyone feel about hot desks in an office?

I personally hate it. We are a results based company so most people wfh, but a few of us come in a few days a week and always sit at the same desk. However, when we have company meetings people will sit there for the day as they are technically hot desks, but all my stuff is there!

This may sound so petty ahaha, just wanted others thoughts on this?

They are requiring us to be in office now 3 days a week... I'm tempted to go in 5 days a week so I can leave my laptop and not work after hours at all.

Plus that would also mean my desk is spoken for

like

Ahah thats totally fair! I hate that companies are asking for us to come in more now

We had our own assigned desks up until we were moved back to hybrid, and I would much prefer to be hybrid than to be required to be in the office every day and have my own desk if those are the only options.
If my team of 12 people are only in the office three days a week, we don’t need 12 desks, it just makes sense. Space is limited. Of course I’d prefer to have my own desk that no one else sneezes on, but I understand why hot desks make sense.

like

Yeah I can completely get that. I think going forwards if I am only going in twice a week I just need to get used to clearing my stuff up every time!

My old company had a hot desk arrangement and I absolutely hated it. You had to reserve a desk each day, which was so inconvenient, and you couldn’t leave anything behind. You basically had to pack up and carry everything with you every single day.

like

simple solution… come in early everyday, take the same seat

You aren’t supposed to leave your stuff there if it’s not your desk.

I hated hot desks and am so happy they let me go back to 100% remote. To be honest though, I'd be pretty annoyed if I showed up for a meeting and had to sit at a desk with someone's personal belongings.

like

Yeah to be fair, we have about 75% that only come in once a month for the meetings. So I do think we shouldn't have to move all out stuff for one day and then move it back etc. As for the rest of the time we stick to our desks pretty much. There's only 4 of us that come in every week :D

For anyone who receives a quarterly bonus or raise in some form, does your employer start to schedule you for less hours when your raise kicks in, or pull you from a future schedule entirely once you receive a bonus; only to put you back on once the hours you would have worked and earned the amount given are passed? Ie; a part time employee getting $200.00 in a quarterly bonus and then not being scheduled a whole week during a bi-weekly pay period where they would have earned more on the clock…?

Additional Posts in Jobs in Finance

Hi everyone, I'm new to Canada and want to start my career here in the Financial and Banking industry. I have passed the CFA level 2 exam and was wondering if I have to complete the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) as most of the job postings here mention about it. I saw that if someone passes at least the CFA level 1 exam then the requirement of CSC is exempted. Can anyone enlighten me about this? As the CSC exam costs above 1000 CAD, I wanted to be sure if I need it before investing behind it.
