How does fund formation/private funds at Gunderson compare to K&E, STB, Deb etc...

I know K&E would hire from G, but is it harder to lateral from G to the other typical funds firms? Can one be seen as narrowly focused on VC?

Also noting G may now be paying for the 2022 brutal layoffs lol

G is mostly VC/hedge, not really PE at all

They will all hire from each other. Funds practices basically will hire anybody with any sort of legitimate funds experience.

LP side to GP side. But it would prob be easier to move to secondaries/fund transactions or whatever a given firm calls it because there is a need.

Mid-level when she's leading the call: please make sure you take notes. It's expected of the person not leading a call (note I always take notes)

Me(jr): asked to lead a call for a different deal as training. Mid-level doesn't take notes (also on call) and tells me it's the job if the junior to take notes.

It's simple—by saving and investing.

And you don't need to be uber wealthy to regain control of your time.

Anyone have slow months where you burn through a lot of your allotted pro bono/professional development hours to keep hitting minimum daily hours? The past few weeks have been like this for me. Should I be concerned (I.e., will this reflect poorly on me, come review time? Will I have dug myself too much of a hole if I keep burning my non-billable hours?) I’ve been asking partners if I can assist in any projects so I can fill my plate, but I’ve only gotten small (4-6 hour) tasks handed my way.

PSA - We are headed into a self-imposed economic slow down. Now is not the time to lateral but if you do, I would make sure you are at a recession-proof practice or firm. The top law firms will be okay (they always are) but if you are part of a larger group of associates with no work, you are likely to be axed. Latham did it in the 2008 and 2011 and it will happen again. If you are an associate or really anyone but a rainmaker, you are expendable.
