Personally, vacations are one of the areas where I’ll splurge. I’ve done a fair amount of credit card churning which helps to subsidize airfare/hotel, but I’ve made it a priority to go to cool/far-off places in my youth vs waiting until later.
At the same time, I won’t shell out for first class and I avoid ultra-lux hotels too. It’s a balance, but I’m willing to spend on experiences.
I have a separate travel account (HYSA) and set aside between $1.5k and $2k monthly for planned vacations. This affords us 1 international trip to Europe or Asia plus one or two family road trips annually.

Save my target savings rate and then whatever is left I blow however I want with no guilt.
Vacations first for me. I rather enjoy life now then to wait til retirement when may be too old and expensive to do the things I want. If my savings take a hit in a year because I spurge, so be it lol. But havent had any issues as vacations are factored in. Usually vacations are my biggest expense at $25k to 30k a year. But savings are still at least twice that. Traveling now is much cheaper than later. I can crash in $50 hotels now but later in mid 40s or so when I plan to retire i doubt i can put up with $50 hotels lol. Over 100 countries visited and climbed some of the highest mountains in the world. Cant imagine doing that later in life. Vacations later after retirement will be beachfront vacations and prob not as frequent lol.

I just make sure that the vacations I take are part of an overall spending pattern where I meet my saving goals, and that I am neither shortchanging vacations to spend at home nor vice versa.

We always did one nice vacation a year. Wife and I saved a set amount every month towards a vacation fund, and that's what we were allowed to spend. As kids came along, fund had to become bigger, but still same mindset - save the money first, then take the trip. You can still retire early without totally denying yourself nice things, like a vacation.
This is the way, I do the same for my family vacations.
What vacation? Haven’t gone on one in 4 years

Why haven’t you gone on one in 4 years?
Enjoy spending money on things that I want
I save the vast majority of my income, but spend carefully on the things I care about. Travel is one of those things, but even there I am conservative with my money.
I prefer to travel to locations that are less expensive and find joy in getting good deals on hotels and flights. I don’t enjoy spending a tremendous amount on any of these things because I only assign them the basic value of shelter and transportation. For example, I recently traveled to East Asia and my total for flights and accommodations was less than $2k over 2 weeks. I never feel like I am losing out and am always comfortable enough.
I used hotel points and airline miles for past few years but now that I’m out of consulting, I am more cost conscious. I’m learning to use Amex points and Chase points. Goal is to minimize cash spend on big items like lodging and airfare. I noticed that since I live in vhcol, food and local transport is cheaper in most places I visit
