My situation is I’m a big 4 senior with my CPA, and I desperately want to move out to a new city and also leave public accounting for an industry job. I’m fortunate that I’m on a team that will let me transfer to a new office. The problem I’m having in my job search is that remote jobs are impossible to land and hybrid/in office jobs in other cities aren’t interested in out of state candidates. It feels kinda stupid to do this, but I’m thinking about keeping my big 4 job and transferring cities and then immediately applying for hybrid jobs once I’m there. I can at least justify this to myself by knowing I’ll have my big 4 job until I land a new job.
Do what's best for you if the ultimate goal is industry.
Would your B4 firm pay for the relo? If so, they likely will make you sign a contract with a repayment clause if you leave within a certain amount of time.
Got it. So I don’t see an issue then with relocating yourself then finding a new job. Seems like your work wouldn’t care about the ordering.
Doesn’t really sound dumb at all. If you end up wanting to boomerang it might be a problem, but only if you leave quickly and/or burn bridges
This ^ sounds like a safe way to move to said city with a job already. Can take your time and find something new. A lot of times transfers get kinda “lost” in big 4. Their old team stops putting them in stuff and integrating with a new office can take time depending on when you transfer. So you’d likely get a slow down while you move too
You would t be the first or the last

Sounds like a good plan to me
