Bain & Company What is the likelihood of making SAC in September 2022 if I join as an AC on April 18th at Bain & Company? I am a senior consultant at EY with 3.5 years of experience in Data Analytics. Or is March 2023 more realistic? They told me 6 months for promotion but it seems like the two promotion cycles with my different start dates give me 4 or 9 months of experience, nothing in between. I’ll be joining in the private equity group which will be new for me.

If you are starting as an Audit Associate some time from now with Deloitte or any of the big 4, do they expect you to have passed/completed all 4 parts by the time you start? Received the Becker Reimbursement email from the recruiter not too long ago but have yet to start. I’ve seen plenty of people get to Senior at a big 4 firm without the CPA so I am a bit confused in that aspect. Any helpful feedback will be very much appreciated.

That sounds like a cluster-f*** of a job if I’ve ever heard of one. I wouldn’t touch that with a ten foot pole.
That sounds awful
It sounds like a challenging role but with a lot of opportunities to learn. Yes it’s going to be a clusterfuck, but those are usually the situations you learn a lot and demonstrate your expertise. Maybe im just an optimist. Those kinds of situations have usually proved lucrative for me from being an indispensable resource.
No I smell fraud
I would say you should also find out the long term intentions from this position... if it is undefined then does it go away when they think you have done all you can to fix their mess?
Agree - sounds interesting, and a lot better than PA... like I said I would just check with them about longer term stability. I'm just a worrier and a planner - kids, mortgage, etc... Good luck!
The risk averse side in me says it's not like you are a 10th year SM with some specialized skill set so they don't know where to place you but want your talent. This is them saying we ll play as we go along. Yes you may be able to do something out of the ordinary, dabble in unknown areas, and learn a lot but the chance of you getting something that peaks your interest may be low. If you have no responsibilities like kids, sure take the chance. One thing you should think is that most smart people would want similar interesting profiles like the ones you would want to pursue, so why would you get the chance if there are most established players for the role?
Also it's easy for us to say don't take the job for the money, but don't take the job for the money! Do what interests you dont take the role for $15k. Stick it out in your role, especially if you are with a reputable firm, and switch for the right opportunity.
I’d get a $15k increase in salary by switching and 40 hour workweeks that aren’t behind a desk
Get a written contract with severance if you are going to take it
@SM1 from what I was told basically it’s a position where you work in a lot of different areas and work with different things and work with the internal audit firm they contract out to. Seem interesting to me as I don’t want to do straight up accounting and the pay is good. Basically fits where I’m at in my career with not knowing what I want but don’t want to be in PA. Ideally I’d take a ton of vacation this summer and leave in fall though
Yeah to me this sounds super interesting because it would be challenging but also give you varied experiences and it doesn’t sound like you’d get bored
@EY3 yup exactly. It’s not a F500 company or anything but they did $400M last year so not super small. The CFO and COO are former B4 employees also
@EY4 I appreciate the feedback! One thing I left out is this role is in a different city from where I currently live. I want to move there and wonder if I should just transfer within my firm and then reassess how I like PA after being in a different office. I should be making senior in October too so I’m not sure if that will get me better opportunities
