How important is it to live in the same city as your home office? I currently live about 60km away from the home office of the MBB I'm joining, and it would be about a 90min commute each way when I need to go to the office.

Would it be feasible to continue living where I am? Or should I relocate closer to the office prior to joining?

Anyone found an affordable adjustable standing desk they like? I have an iMac and a laptop is like to be able to fit on it.

1099 or w-2 ? I have been given the option though the company prefers w-2. It’s a day rate booking couple of months or more (no end date). I already have 1099 from similar company this year and am leaning towards 1099, but I don’t want to be difficult. I do take home office deduction and they are not supplying any equipment. A friend of mine works with TCS as an Analyst, his base location is Bengaluru but he is been working from his hometown in Lucknow since the first COVID lockdown. Now he is being asked by his team to work from Ahmedabad, where his direct supervisor (manager) is working from. In this case, according to TCS talent policies, what is the procedure and the benefits that he can avail, as part of project initiated relocation? Also, how long it takes to get base location changed through HR in TCS?

Learned on the day of the deadline to enroll, that my partner's employer offers voluntary participation on a deferred compensation plan. First time I hear of such a benefit/option after working for years!
