I find the most effective approach to avoiding tolerance is through alternating days or weeks. For me this requires an effective plan each week/month and strong of awareness of when I can maximize the use of my medication. Plus, I almost always take weekends off.
This is hard to do, especially when work is demanding. My contingency is to reduce my daily max dosage. Typically down to 10 or 15 mg (I stick to IR for the flexibility). You'll be surprised how effective it is after taking a week or two off.
I started doing this after college through conversations with my PCP about my prescription and desire reduce/eliminate it over time (considering the realities of my ADHD and career aspirations). I quickly discovered that personal routine > medicated motivation & flexibility > dependence.
Tolerance happens quick and is hard to reverse so I attempt to avoid it all together. Another tip I find useful when taking my medication is to avoid heavy meals and supplement as outlined on https://www.addysafe.org/
Hey no problem. I will add, I am by no means perfect at this. One challenge for me continues to be sleep cycle. There are noticeable impacts to my sleep quality (track via SleepHR on Apple Watch). I consistently have a higher sleeping heart rate/lower HR dip, and wake up in the night more often on days I dose. Definitely a downside of low tolerance.
