How long does it take you to bill 8 hours? I’m in the office from 9ish until 6/6:30pm and usually hit around 8 hours, sometimes 8.5. Yesterday I got to the office at 8:45am and left at 6:30pm. so 9.8hrs) and billed 8.5 for instance. I work through lunch and use timers that I’ve gotten good at working with. Is that decent?

Super decent. I’m usually aiming for 6 hours by 5pm.

Im at 4.5 right now. I got a standing desk and find it really helps. My group is also absolutely swamped so I am able to continuously move through matters without downtime. I’m a midlevel healthcare/pharma associate for reference.

6-6.5 by 5 is typically my target starting the day around 9 AM

Pretty good. Sometimes takes me 10-12 hours to get 8

On a good day as a regulatory specialist it takes me about 9 or 9.5 to get 8 billable hours. For days we have our weekly practice group update meeting it might take me 12 to bill 8 between the meeting, socializing, admin stuff, and other non-billables.

like

The fact that your group has weekly meetings sucks...that's such a waste of time for no reason

So I had 3 deals scheduled to either close end of May or mid June which were all pushed to end of June/beginning of July. Which is when I have my first vacation planned for over a year (I take 0 time off). My whole family is flying up and we’re renting a cabin near me. What do I do? I’m running one of the deals, semi running the other one and not doing much leading on the other one. Note: I was supposed to not be running any of these. Do I find a back up first or tell the partners first?

Curious as to how many deals at once is typical for a first year associate to take on (M&A, mostly private equity clients). Deal size is lower middle market and I’ve worked on deals ranging from $1-$110M. 2 deals at once is plenty for me, but it seems like my peers are able to take on more than that at once and still do fine. Maybe I’m just a slow learner/out of my league at the big law firm I’m at.
