Working overtime as a full-time employee really started to affect my mental and physical health. My current job is a freelance one and overtime has to be pre-approved, which my company doesn't want me to do anyway. So while I'm missing out on the 1.5x overtime pay, and also my current hourly rate is 1/3 less than my salary at my last job, I'm so much less stressed out. I'm happy to just work 40 hours.
Also, you shouldn't equate overtime pay with a raise. It's not the same thing
Made a lot of money with OT over the years. But in my experience only when working on Pharma at a big holding co. I do both - traditional and pharma. Even have two separate portfolios. I consider my year a success when there's a mix of solid conceptual work sold and produced while getting paid basically crap. Plus, I spent 4-6 months working a pharma gig where I get OT and my average week is 60 hours 🙌
Our pharma agency caps FL at 40hrs
Agency surprised me with OT once. We were negotiating hard on rate. Then surprise, there it was in the contract. Probably would have taken a lower rate it I had known.
OT was decent before COVID but during and after, most agencies cap at 40 hours or try to make you push your extra hours to following week(s). They make billions and they get cheap for a few hundred bucks. 🤷🏻♂️
