Good work trumps awards. As many have said, there’s a game to the shows. That said, the word Lion magically helps recruiters like your stuff.
I used to salivate at the possibility of making award-winning work with each brief. Now I cringe when I hear anyone bring up the topic of awards. Literally nobody outside of our industry cares — most normal people actively block or avoid seeing ads, let alone feel influenced by them to shape their opinions about a product or brand.
If any consolation my GCDs at a shop 5 years ago had won zero credible awards. Don’t take it to heart. Awards are lame these days anyway. So many categories… so many back room deals
I have zero major awards and don’t really think about it. I do pretty good work. If an agency doesn’t want to give me a job because I don’t have awards then oh well.
Im sure many put awards on their books that they barely contributed. Many creatives out there with zero awards deserve way more. I’ve worked with people with awards who had very little talent.
A killer campaign can get snubbed because it's "too niche" or "ahead of its time" while a mediocre concept with the right marketing budget and connections can snag a whole shelf full of accolades. It's frustrating sure, but don't let that define your worth.
I have zero. Never cared. Probably should have.
Ditto
I worked at a company that did not want us to enter any contests, but we did exceptional work. If I were hiring, I would want to interview someone with a great portfolio and learn more about their involvement with each project.
The fact that you’re thinking like this says you’ve got good book hygiene. Which means you still care. So many others get jaded and start coasting and end up fading away. Maybe you’re burnt out but you don’t seem to have given up… ask yourself why. I don’t think you’re stuck at whatever level you’ve reached at all. Focus on turning somebody’s business around and watch the manna start raining.
Alol good book hygiene, I like it.
Listen I have all the awards and feel the same way as a supporting team member that didn’t have the “idea” that started it all. Sometimes winning a lion is the luck of what team you are on to deliver on your partners vision. You are enough just make new stuff.
