What exit opp did you take from public?
I recently interviewed with MITRE for a systems engineering role to make the move from Leidos where I feel underpaid for the work I do and for my experience ($85K). I have 4 YOE, a STEM degree, and soon will have a Masters Degree. I’m looking to make around $120K in the new role at Mitre. Does anyone have any insight into comp there? This would be in the DC metro area. Does $120K seem reasonable or am I dreaming?

Currently targeting $250k for each kid
Samesies
I put in 100k per kid, want to see if it can double
Yup. Estimated $251k for “average” tuition and “average” scholarship for my class of 2027 high school daughter. $265k for son 4 years later. This would not cover full cost Ivy League but will cross that bridge if we get to it…
Also are you planning on sending them to a private college or a welfare subsidized taxpayer funded institution
Depends on what you want/hope for your child. Community college? State school? Trade school? That will determine how much you need instead of just guessing at a round number.
My high school senior wants to go to an ivy league school. That’s $400k over 4 years. For most people in Consulting, we don’t qualify for financial aid. And at many top 20 schools, they don’t offer merit scholarships. So I expect to have to come up with on average, $100k/year for four years.
Kid 1 is 9 - have 200k. kid 2 is 5 - have 150k. Targeting 300k each to cover them.
Had 187K for the first kid 212K when second started college
The only catch to such high 529 accounts is that you are almost guaranteeing no financial aid.
If you earn over 120K your kids ain’t getting any need based aid
Enough to pay for a state school
