$1200 per month is the cost of the cheapest daycares where I live. Average is $1500 per month. This is why I can only have one kid.
Decent options by me are 1850-2200/mo per kid
This is also what I’m paying.
That’s cheap! My 3 year olds camp is $900 per week!!!!! It is just her regular preschool and no pool. Regular tuition is about $2500 per month…..I don’t get it
2,200/month in Chicago suburbs.
Odd that you think paying a teen will save money when your daycare is lower end pricing. Do you plan on paying little to nothing to the teen?
I think the math actually works out. OP says 4 kids, so that's $4,800/month. Say you hire a sitter for $20/hour for 45 hours per week, that's only $3,600/month. Even up to $25/hour is still a slight savings when you're talking multiple kids. You lose out on having the structured lesson plans and friendships from a daycare, but get the flexibility of someone at your house, for comparable or cheaper cost.
It’s $2000 in my area 😩
We pay $2,150/month and that is on the cheaper side - most centers by us are around $2,400-$2,500
Sorry but where do you live? Out area southwest is about $1500 to more depending on how long my kids stay 7 to 4 PM
I'm in a midwest area (probably considered LCOL) and pay $585/week for two kids (2 & 4) for full-time at a licensed daycare facility. That's about the $1,200/month you mention. It sounds like a lot, but it's not worth giving up my salary to avoid daycare costs. It works out to a reasonable $6-7 per hour per kid.
If you're looking only for summer care and need it for 4 kids, you might be better off looking for a high school or college kid that can come to your house.
Chicago suburbs, I was quoted 1,500-2,200 from 8-4. If I wanted 7-5 its extended and they charge a bit more.
I was paying my mom 2k a month for my toddler. My older sister does 2k per month for each of her toddlers. My mom is 58 and tired of work so she has been taking care of the kids for a few years now. Its a bit more than a daycare but knowing they will eat good food and will be well taken care of is worth it for us.
Now I have a newborn, idk what to do. I really just want to stay home for a few years. I feel bad leaving him.
If I do 4k each month for daycare I'll only be left with 2k. If I subtract my gas, parking and lunch that I buy instead of cooking it I'll probably be left with just 1k. Idk if its worth it.
It’s definitely location dependent… Have you looked into church daycares? We are in LCOL OH and our super popular local preschool/daycare (held in a church but not sponsored by the church) is approx $840 per month - we are religious but a lot of our neighbors aren’t and still send their kids there. My family in the suburbs of larger cities in OH actually pay a little less.
In the DMV we are being quoted on average $500/week for a toddler (not yet 2). Range seems to be $490-$575/week for FT care.
Quotes above were for larger daycares. Received a quote for an in home daycare of $350/wk for all aged children.
1300 here in my area
Have you thought about a nanny who is allowed to bring their own kid to work?
Note: not a parent but that is the arrangement I had growing up
