Does anyone else have the problem that their curriculum does not meet the standards or goals and is either too hard or too easy. I spend so much money buying lessons off of TPT, buying books or spending all weekend writing my own for 5 subjects. I’m exhausted.

I keep being told what I have to do, but no one will show me how to do it. Be very careful how you word IEP’s without being given. The wording. I have been here 2 years as an intern. Now, with 3 weeks to go, I find out the name of the support person? I was never given training and my intern support person never met with me. Not even once! I’m not being hired back because I don’t know how to do what I was never trained on.

Anyone else the last to be informed about ANYTHING at their site? I am only a second year SPED teacher and my eyes are already wide open to the fact that admin and Gen Ed teachers so often fail to inform me about important things regarding the grade levels I teach and other school events. I use to enjoy pulling together lessons using a variety of resources, and not using textbooks or ready made curriculum. I just used the standards. These days, I’m finding that my online students find a set curriculum easier to navigate. I’m finding it easier to keep organized online. Anyone else having a similar experience?

Hello all! I am new to 8th grade this year, which means it’s my first year with transition plans for the IEP. I’ve written about 10 so far but I still do not feel comfortable at all with them. What resources do you use or information to help guide transition goals and activities/services?

What do you think about handing out gifts to your students? I'm not thinking food or sweets since I have some kids with allergies, but maybe just a card and a new pencil and eraser set, or new flashcards. Appropriate or no? If yes, what would you suggest?

Does anyone here let their kids just read? I have let my kids read in Epic and a lot of them will pick the read to me books. I also have a large set of leveled graphic novels. My principal made a snarky comment today about some interventions not getting done. My thought are If I can get kids interested in reading that is half of the battle and letting them chose a book they want to read is sometimes better than doing an intervention they don’t want to do? Thoughts?

What % of your students have difficulty with reading? Have you asked if parents had difficulties with reading? Dyslexia is more common than we realize, and I would love to know if you use any specific curriculum for students with Dyslexia.

Granddaughter just accepted her first position in education as a para II. She supports one student but when that student is absent, she asked to help others. She asked me for advice about supporting a kindergarten autistic student that has just arrived from India and does not speak English and neither do parents. He is not aggressive but will refuse to move from task to task. What would be your advice?
