How much notice does everyone have to give to take PTO? We have to give a month or more, which seems crazy to me.

Check the calendar. If it’s open, take it off. You’re just not supposed to do it the day of as that would be considered a call off which gets tracked. But even then I’ve had managers that didn’t care if we marked it as excused.

Same way at Progressive

I’m a manager. As long as there aren't too many people off at the same time, my group can take it whenever they want. We keep a shared calendar. I don’t want to micromanage people’s time off. If everyone wants the same time off during the holidays, I ask my team to work it out. We’re all adults.

This. Holidays are harder to manage, but other than that, check the shared calendar. Don't leave me and your coworkers hanging.

If I want 5 days PTO then need to give 5 days notice. They would prefer more if possible but they have never denied any of my requests. I can actually get time off unlike my last employer where our requests were done in January for the upcoming year and written in stone. Was a nightmare to get time off.

like

If you are in Underwriting big holidays that are around the 1st or end of the month of major effective dates like Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day and Christmas/New Years should be coordinated amongst a team several months out in advanced. For example, I make myself available every year around Christmas or New Years since my brokers are solid and usually have their deals done way early and it’s pretty low key for me anyway but then I always take a major vacations in September around Labor Day and have a one off vacation that comes close to MLK or Memorial Day.

I've been told if slots are available at least 24 hours. But it's rough on your team if you don't give at least a week of you are taking more than a day.

When I was an adjuster we could do it day of.

Like I said, when I was a CH I could take it day of.

I did Monday to take today off.

I’ve never had an issue taking a day off. I like to give advance notice but there’s been times I haven’t and it’s perfectly fine no issue.

1 day

At SF, you have to request 13 months in advance.

13 months??? That is crazy!

like

I’ve never had an issue. I just needed to secure a backup. I could leave that day if it was an emergency.

As long as we do it the day before we are ok.

Depends on your manager and company policies. I work i sprints so it's courtesy and a good idea to know what your upcoming PTO is for at least a sprint if not the entire iteration so work can be planned.

That seems too much advance notice.

Anyone go from SaaS / licensing sales to services (strategy & implementation) sales?

I'm thinking of moving from large cap tech to large cap consultancy firm to help build the resume and round out my experience. I enjoy and do well in licensing, but I'm fairly young in my career (<6 years) and received a great offer to make the move.

Big fan of the org and team I'll be joining as well.

Thanks!!

Advice appreciated: I want to sublease my apartment so that I can rent elsewhere and pay less. I had to move in a short amount of time and it was during the period where there was a high demand for housing, & leases everywhere were expensive so I signed what I thought was fairly cheap in comparison to what was out there. However I found something this month that will cut costs by 30%. How do I go about finding someone to sublease my place?

I have been talking to a recruiter for a little over a month about a position. I let her know out the gate that I really wasn’t looking to change jobs, but she just kept wanting to continuing the conversation. I didn’t have 2 interviews with the hiring coming and they know that I am not really looking to make a switch. They are now working on an offer letter and I know they’re going to offer me more money.
