Consulting is not for you if you think you will be compensated for late nights. That’s the given, you are expects to work late hours or nights etc. In higher tiers of consulting 50-60 is very normal
You can do independent consulting if you want to be paid by the hour.
Appreciate the advice.
Sorry friend the harsh truth is that you should have know this before starting the job. Long hours are a given and there is no overtime. This is the industry.
Thank you for the advice!
Unfortunately, Senior Consultant 1 is right. That is the industry we are in and none of us are getting paid for overtime. Sometimes being salaried isn't all it is cracked up to be.
50 hour weeks are ok occasionally but they are getting to me
At FTI we get a bonus for going over a certain threshold of billable hours in any given month. So it’s a thing. Not a great incentive though and rare (unique?) in industry.
The OT pay can make the long days a little more worth it though. The alternative is going to a collections-based bonus firm like A&M
Most major consulting firms are salaried. Doesn’t matter if you work 30 hours or 100. At least in the US.
I switched to independent for this reason. I liked the work, but not the hours and how little time I got to see my family. It was hard to get started, but the added freedom is worth it.
Yeah, I’d go back to what you were doing before.
