They, like stand-alone agencies usually contract with a production company based on the director, the director’s treatment for the project and calls with the director and production company. While brands with internal agencies and agencies will occasionally hire a director it is very, very rare. More likely they may have a creative director who might direct a project for them.
I take it you aren’t affiliated with a production company?
Thanks I didn't realize the process was pretty much the same for internal / external. Yes I'm freelance now, taking a break from the roster world
Have you ever gotten work at that rate?
Yeah, brands don’t hire for this and would never get this type of budget approved for 1 person. They pay an agency if it’s a big broadcast spot and it’s rolled into the budget by the agency. And they have a Creative Director on staff for anything smaller so they don’t need to outsource this.
