Lol
It’s only 9 AM ET but you OP have made the best joke of the day
I know where it is, OP.
DD1 that’s in Nevada
Tents on Golden Gate st are not too expensive yet, go for it
So much negativity so little time :(
I think OP might be asking if there are areas that might be a few hundred less than others (not thousands)
If I’m wrong though shame on me
Move to western Washoe County and commute in every day, even if by helicopter you'll save money.
Lol at people who can’t ever answer a question seriously. I just moved from SF to Manhattan and rent is super comparable. Everyone is so dramatic about rent prices but truth is, everyone on my salary lived in pretty good spots in SF. I lived in Pacific Heights and now live in the west village. Both super good fun neighborhoods (views were better in SF but location is better in Manhattan). My place is also a little smaller in Manhattan but tends to be around the cooler restaurants and nightlife. You will definitely have to live with roommates depending on your salary but i think that’s part of the fun of living in young, fun cities
OP - it's the area in the country that is most expensive and prices are still growing. Affordable is a subjective term, but plan for 3k+ rent for an apartment (note the plus sign) and 4k+ rent for a house, plus 45-90 minutes commute each way to work every day.
Financially it's not a place you want to move to unless you know clearly what drives you to the Bay Area.
You can find areas of Oakland where rent is more affordable than SF - rents are slowly creeping up but it’s better now than later.
Sunnyvale has traditionally lower rent, but remember- you do sometimes get what you pay for. I’d say ~1500 per bedroom is seen as competitive
If you don’t mind living outside the city, which I assume you do since you asked about San Jose. Daly City is relatively affordable. You can take the train to the city and Uber isn’t too long of a ride either. It’s not walkable to anything however. I would also recommend you check out ingleside, mt Davidson and Merced heights. They are in the city but more towards the edge and aren’t as crazy as the rest of the city but nicer than excelsior and outer mission.
Haha he said affordable
So many lolz
If it's affordable, you'll end up spending half your day commuting
Thank you for the last few helpful advice. I’m wondering if there’s any search engines or local listings that focus on homeowners renting out their extra room. I have met people like that around campus and they are greet people to live with and cheap rent
AirBnB
Trulia has a feature for filtering on rentals that are looking to rent a single room. There are lots listed in SF. It’s common to need to roommates as everyone already noted. Craigslist of course is another option. I’m sure there are even specific Apps but I don’t know them
SF and affordable 😂😂😂😂
Just get a roommate. You can get a fine 2 bedroom in a good area for 4K in SF. Not going to be a penthouse or anything but people over dramatic about it. Or maybe the idea of 2k to live with a roommate itself is ridiculous to some ppl. 🤷♂️
