In general companies typically run a background check after a former employee has not been employed by them during a period of time, which can vary by company, industry, etc. If it’s been a couple of years since you’ve worked for your former company, they will most likely run a background check to ensure that your background doesn’t have any red flags and are still in compliance with their current policies. At the end of the day, their HR team needs to ensure the company is protected and you are not a liability.
What did you do….
I would think so yes. Even if you hadn’t taken a break, but you just switched organizations you would get a new background check. Is there a reason why you’re worried about a background check being performed? It’s routine I wouldn’t worry about it.
It's just them doing their due diligence.
If your crime is not a crime of violence (assault, battery, domestic), sexual crime (any form of rape, coercion, harassment), or a crime of moral turpitude (theft, fraud), you’ll likely be fine. This means if you got a DUI, public intoxication, disturbance of peace, racing ticket, etc, you’ll likely have no issues with a background check as long as it’s a misdemeanor

As far as I am aware all companies do background check more so now than before. Security has ramped up a lot in the last year and for good reason. So, the companies you have applied for, if you get interviewed, they will more than likely do a background check. Wherever you choose to work- GOOD LUCK. I hope you find what you are looking for or wherever you are wanting to work.
