Hi, I currently work in the field as a security analyst.
First, it will take more than a boot camp certificate to break into the cybersecurity field. Cybersecurity is not an entry-level role.
Second, cybersecurity is a broad field so deciding what you want to specialize in will make the transition easier.
And last, you don't have to immediately break into a cybersecurity role. You can also go for other tech roles then break into a cybersecurity role.
It depends on a number of factors; 1) what is your purpose in changing; 2) how dramatic of a change are you looking to make? There are needs for dedicated PMs, Risk Analysts, Risk & Compliance Auditors, and a slew of technical contributor and leadership roles to consider 3) how technical are you? 4) what is your current awareness of Cybersecurity/InfoSec frameworks and best practices?
If you understand the basics and can grasp new concepts and emerging tech and threats quickly, a bootcamp and maybe a certification like Security+ will give you the baseline knowledge and credibility to refocus on Security projects. If you’re looking to pivot into security operations or a dedicated role, you’ll probably need to start with an entry level position and prove yourself and develop the experience that is critical in Cybersecurity. In security it is important (not totally unique) to be able to learn & adapt and use strong critical thinking to be successful.
Best of luck.
