I am advocating for increases for 3 people on my team being promoted. I researched salaries for their positions, and presented it to my supervisor. He came back with numbers below the bare minimum of what we should be paying them. He says he wants to pitch numbers to the CEO that she will realistically accept, and wants to see the employees grow first, then consider increases. I've already made several arguments for increasing the numbers and he won't budge. Any advice?

Exercise I did with my ceo was sharing a deck of what they accomplished for the year and activities that correlated to revenue. I would have your 3 people put together a deck for them to look back on and as a review to talk through. Another thing that helped me get increases for my team was updating their job descriptions with them to reflect the work they are doing today and sharing with CEO. Also would be good for you to share that the salaries aren’t aligned with rest of market and the money and time it will cost to find replacements

You’re awesome for advocating for your team!

Thank you!!! We need more leaders to advocate!

Thanks for doing what you are doing. I got promoted and my raise was 1.75%. I talked to my boss about promoting someone on my team and was told that budget is tight and we can talk again in 6 months. This company does not like to promote people easily. Remember, that we should all place about 25% value to work from home given the recent shift in the market with return to office.

You should resubmit the same proposal and your supervisor should pitch your numbers anyway. The worst the CEO could say is “no”, so what’s the harm? The fact that he is unwilling to budge on them implies (to me) that he’s looking to keep those numbers for himself. I would subtly call him out on it. And point out the fact that you are doing your best to make sure your dedicated, hard working team is taken care of so there’s no chance of them leaving.

Also - this is so cool that you’re doing this for your team. You’re amazing.

For expert witnesses/lawyers

I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?

When I negotiated my comp, all my discussions were around me being a junior and I only accepted my comp for that reason (would not have accepted if I was step above junior since it was low). Negotiations happened with HR, but my offer letter and documents never mention junior (but I have proof from HR saying I am a junior). How do I approach this with my boss as I’m not sure she’s aware I’m actually technically a junior? Revolving around asking for a move up + raise

I’m currently in a lease admin type role, in commercial real estate. I make a base salary of $50.5K with about $9k in bonuses. I’ve continuously received 7-10% raises over the last 3 years. I anticipate getting a promotion this year and would like to get closer to $60k for my base salary. I’m the only person in my role at the company and have been a key person in developing our team as we look to expand. Is this unreasonable? Is there a normal increase given with promotions? Thanks in advance!

Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.
