Coming from EY, I would say it’s great work life balance. Never having to work on the weekends too. The con IMO is that it’s slower pace when it comes to work and promotions. But definitely wouldn’t change it!
Do you think someone could make IA Manager after only 3-4 years as a senior associate in IA? Currently thinking about leaving but I’m someone who wants to get to Manager after only 5-6 years of experience. I have 2 years of public accounting experience.
It's 10000000% better once you leave. No weekends, late hours, or stress. All holidays are off, no emergency late night pings, no time logging. Cons are less role growth and pay growth within the same company.
I liked both.
I worked for the IRS, BDO, Miller Kaplan, a small local firm and now Im at a Tribal casino.
The best is the tribe in company culture its kind of government like but better. Internal auditing. Flat 40 hours with unexpected extra holidays and free medical for myself my kid was additional but still reasonable.
External audit: The worst work load Miller Kaplan I was working over 70 hours weekly I did get OT pay but the supervisors were toxic AF. The little local firm also was super toxic and unprofessional... 2 months in and i wanted out, i lasted 5 months. IRS being pretty toxic as well, benefits were good but you get furloughed during government shut downs too. You watch the budget news a lot because every year its a thing i was there 12 years. I actually liked BDO but salary was low, during busy season they required 55 billables, but no OT pay. Good benefits. I stayed 14 months. They had amazing tech to work with... made work easy and fast.
