I really am more interested in the data strategy aspect than the hands on coding, but not sure if that kind of role is even out there….
OP - Shoot me a DM.
Without an advanced degree, you’ll be able to get a position building prepackaged models with some time spent learning and networking your way in. If you want to do the real thing, then going back to school will better serve you. I’d say if you want to do MLops then CS is best, but if you want to do more modeling, then Math/Stats is better.
Yep I think we’re saying the same thing. I studied engineering at a Big 10 school and find myself doing similar work as you for an F500 (no longer a DA just haven’t updated it). I think in most cases, needing advanced degrees will help with working in businesses where data is the product, because they’re likely to do the most complex work. Whereas I feel that I’m mainly paid to work with and translate data into something that’s helpful for the business, whether that’s doing some predictive/prescriptive work or just descriptive summaries. All of this can be learned with the right drive/curiosity and mentorship.
